Blue Zones Project: Anasazi Elementary of the Scottsdale Unified School District is hosting its inaugural ‘Walk to School Day’ at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26 to promote a healthier environment for all.
The event coined, ‘The Pumpkin Plod’ starts at the Lost Dog Trail as Anasazi Elementary officials tell the Digital Free Press the event is to promote the Blue Zones 100 healthy habits, which encourages physical activity that helps to reduce traffic congestion.
Blue Zones Project has implemented walking school days or walking school bus programs in various communities around the country. Forty years ago, over 60% of elementary school kids walked to school — today, less than 15% do.
Anasazi Elementary School has embraced the principles of Blue Zones Project Scottsdale, incorporating practices that promote longevity and vitality. In partnership with the Blue Zones Project, school officials have introduced various initiatives aimed at enhancing the well-being of their students, staff, and families.
Blue Zones Project is a grassroots effort to promote better health for all based on research from National Geographic Fellow and best-selling author Dan Buettner on the world’s longest-lived populations.
Blue Zones officials say the effort focuses on reshaping environments to address social determinants of health, making healthier choices more accessible and helping people live longer, healthier, and happier lives. Blue Zones Project, a collaborative effort with HonorHealth, was introduced to Scottsdale in March 2022, thanks to a partnership Blue Zones Project promotes practical, sustainable changes that support healthier lifestyles.
