Museum volunteer

Volunteers greet guests who come in to the museum & tell them a bit about Winfield and Helen Scott, our founders. We invite them to complete a self-guided tour and let them know if they have questions, they can ask.

Description:
Volunteers greet guests who come in to the museum & tell them a bit about Winfield and Helen Scott, our founders. We invite them to complete a self-guided tour and let them know if they have questions, they can ask. The Museum is in the Little Red Schoolhouse, 7333 Scottsdale Mall; the oldest brick building in Scottsdale. The Little Red Schoolhouse was built in 1909 as a 2 room schoolhouse. Museum hours are: Wednesday-Saturday 10am to 5pm (shifts are 10a-1:30p and 1:30-5) and Sundays 12pm to 4pm; (October-April). September & May the hours are 10am to 2pm Wed.-Sat. and 12p-4p Sunday. The museum is closed in June, July & August If the volunteer is interested in Scottsdale history; we have a group of "archivers" who go through all the donations and old documents the first and 3rd Mondays each month from 1-3pm.
Demands of Role:
-Volunteer shifts are 3.5 to 4 hours each and two volunteers work together -Volunteers wear a nametag with their first name on it -Volunteers may sit throughout their shift if they need to -Volunteers welcome guests and are requested to do so with a smile -There are resources in the museum to answer questions and as volunteers work there, they learn some of the tidbits of Scottsdale's history and are welcome to share those with guests -There are restrooms in the basement, which volunteers can access via stairs or on a ramp that goes to the back door of the building -there is a kitchen there with water/soda/tea/coffee/snacks for the volunteers -we have a small gift shop so working the cash register and credit card machine (instructions are written out) are requested. (Training is provided)
