Description:
Leaders for Literacy is a hands-on initiative that mobilizes community leaders to serve as substitute teachers in Arizona classrooms. By stepping into the classroom one day per month, volunteers are paired with an educator to gift educators the necessary time to complete vital, research-backed Science of Reading training. This program provides participants with firsthand insight into the education system while directly supporting improved reading outcomes for students across the state.
Demands of Role:
Substitute in our partner districts once a month for four months. Must be able to obtain a fingerprint clearance card a substitute teacher certificate (which requires a bachelor's degree). Costs occurred can be reimbursed. Volunteers are expected to enter the classroom as "respectful guests" with a focus on curiosity and support rather than trying to "fix" or evaluate the environment.
