Quilt-Making for Special Education Classrooms

No demands! This will be a chill volunteering role for anyone. If you are a sewist, please bring your machine for personal use!!!!

Type of Opportunity:
Sewing/Art/Hands-on Volunteering
Description:
Hi! My name is Sylvia. I am a Senior Girl Scout here in Arizona currently pursuing my Gold Award: creating textured/weighted quilts for special education students in classrooms around the Valley, designed to promote self-regulation and calming strategies. A few months ago, I posted looking for scrap fabric donations and was super successful in my collection. Now that I have made an initial (prototype) quilt (photos #2 & 3), I am seeking volunteer sewists to learn to make a textured puff quilt, and to help me sew more for donating to SUSD classrooms. I will be holding a workshop/service event Friday, March 6th between 1pm and 4:30pm at the Via Linda Senior Center in Scottsdale, Arizona. If you are unavailable but would like to contribute, I am still looking for textured fabric donations, specifically of sequin flip fabric, corduroy, or crinkle fabric, or buckle fasteners, so please reach out and I can arrange a pickup time. Thank you and hope you can join me!
